Advice for Students Currently Looking for Employment
It is important to identify your strengths and what types of problems you excel at resolving. This will allow you to focus on what you can offer employers in tangible terms.
Spend more time polishing your strengths rather than focusing too much on strengthening your weaknesses. For example, despite your lack of fluency in English, be reminded of your proficiency in math and data analysis, which can prove valuable to employers.
Make connections with people in the workplace who understand your professional experiences and strengths, and who will help you get hired. The Network is an excellent resource, but don’t stop there.
Rather than being a status quo job seeker, leverage your strengths. Show employers that you can provide them with better ideas and insights than their competitors.
Consider participating in short-term volunteer projects to showcase your existing skills and set yourself apart from others in the market. This will allow you to demonstrate your ability in certain areas, and will help you build a network that may ultimately lead to a job.
Identify your interests, skills, experiences, and languages and become excellent and highly skilled at whatever it is you are passionate about. Experience is everything.
